2021 July 12 Librarian’s Report

Correspondence – Letter from Bank of America re: stock market funds for trusts.  Notice of changes to our insurance policy.

Personnel – Our Summer Worker has started and is doing a good job.

2nd Quarter programs – In person programming is still suspended.  We did a take-away butterfly/milkweed kit.  We did a book giveaway at the Senior Center.  Rainbow Nursery came for an outside story time in May.

Upcoming programs –The Summer Reading Program is in full swing.  We are doing story-times on Fridays in July at the Pagenstacher Park under the pavilion – rain or shine.  There is a take away kit when kids sign up for Summer Reading.  There are three special events (kid’s book sale, silly sidewalk race, and rockets) in July on Saturdays either on the patio or across the street.   We are not doing in-house programing during the summer.

SALS & Directors’ Council – Patron self-registration is now available through our Overdrive site for people 13 and older.  This issues a temporary “card” that can be used with digital services.  To get the physical card people will need to come into the library within 60 days to complete the registration process.  When the self-registered card expires the borrower cannot apply for a new self-registered card for 1 year.  Overdrive has purchased Kanopy.  At this point we are not sure how or if that will affect our Kanopy account.  There are other visual streaming services such as Hoopla that we can explore.

Joint Automation Council / computers – Our new desk computer is here, the new laptop should be here by summer’s end (hopefully).

Friends – We are still not taking book donations right now.  The goal is to resume taking donations at some time in the fall.  Due to space limitations, we will limit how much anyone can bring in at any one time. We had a small, children’s only sale on July 10.  It went well though sales were not spectacular.  Logistically we should have a few more people available for help at future small sales.  We will do another small sale on our usual date of July 31.  This will consist of adult fiction, puzzles, DVDs, paperbacks, and some popular non-fiction. We will try to do another sale in late September or early October.

Maintenance – The cordless phone needs to be replaced (the current one is behaving very strangely at times and is becoming unreliable.)  The windows were washed on April 12.  The carpet was cleaned June 2. Our router died on June 3 – JA staff were able to get us fixed and back up by the evening.  Tuff Kote has been contacted and we are on their schedule for August or September for maintenance on the ramp.  Furnace maintenance should be scheduled for fall.

Other – CCS budget vote passed.
