2023 April Librarian’s Report

Personnel – We have submitted our application for a summer worker through Saratoga County’s Summer Youth Employment Program.  Some major changes to the program this year: workers will only be allowed to work Monday through Friday, and we will only be allowed to have a worker for 8 weeks.  Michael will attend the NYLA/YAS meeting in Lake George on April 28.

1st Quarter programs –We have continued with our monthly take and make craft kits and they continue to be popular.  In March we had Marble Maze Madness program.  Farm2Library was on hiatus during the winter.  We received food items from the Food Pantry for sharing.  We have been calling this our Food Angel program and it has been popular.  This is not as structured as the Farm 2 Library program as it is not on a regular schedule.

Upcoming programs – Craft kits will take a break after April until the Fall.  We hope to continue with a monthly program for school age children.  Michael will reach out to the local pre-schools and the CCS Elementary school to bring stories to the children and to let them know about our Summer programming plans.  Michael is finalizing our plans for the Summer Reading Programing.

SALS & Directors’ Council – The SALS annual meeting will be both in person and via zoom on Monday May 15 from 5-9.  SALS may pay for one trustee to attend in person.  Library money has been put back in the State budget.

I attended the NYS library advocacy session with Senator Tedisco on March 3 via zoom.

Joint Automation Council / computers –Phishing training for everyone who uses the SALS email system began in February.  We all took the training and found it useful.  I believe there will be follow up training throughout the year.  The deadline for the JA group order for computers is April 13.  There are new computers available this year that will be under warranty for a longer time period.  The prices have gone up.  Purchasing our usual 2 computers will put us over budget by $418.  The Friends can support us with funds to cover that overage.  One of the options is an all-in-one unit that includes a monitor with a webcam and speakers.  We are planning on purchasing one of these and putting it in the HRR.  We are excited to be able to offer that equipment for conferencing or video calls.

Friends – The annual book sale will be on Saturday July 29.

Maintenance –Front porch will be power washed April 3.  The windows will be washed and the rug cleaned as well in this quarter.

Other – We had a notice from Kanopy informing us that they use Silicon Valley Bank.  This should not affect us as we pay by check.

The annual report brochure is available for you and will be distributed to local dignitaries.
